Maize

It has been said that Nigeria is the tenth largest producer of maize in the world and the largest in Africa. More maize is produced annually than any other grain in Nigeria. About 50 species exist and consist of different colors, textures and grain shapes and sizes. White, yellow and red are the most common types

Maize is in extraordinarily high demand in Nigeria. There is always a shortfall between demand and supply. As such, there is measured importation of maize while effort to increase local supply exponentially intensifies.

Elephant Group Plc is a major player in both fields i.e. in the importation and the backward integration scheme.

Industrial Raw Material

Maize started as a subsistence crop but has now grown to become an industrial raw material for many agro-industries.

It is on record that more than 60 per cent of Nigeria’s production of maize is consumed by the industrial sector for production of flour, beer, malt drink, corn flakes, starch, syrup, dextrose and animal feeds.

We supply high quality maize.

Maize Importation

The largest African producer of maize is Nigeria with nearly 7.5 million tonnes. The country’s annual demand for maize is about 8 million metric tonnes thus leaving a demand gap of about 500,000 metric tonnes which is met from importation. Elephant Group is at the fore-front to meet this demand.
